The family’s horrific flight through the forest to escape their flooded home

KUALA KRAI: Six people, including four children, were subjected to a horrifying ordeal when they were forced to wade through a nearby forest after their house in Kampung Sungai Embak was damaged to a depth of 100 meters following heavy rains on Friday (Nov 30). was flooded about five feet.

Housewife Azila Abdul Aziz, 38, recalled that she, her husband and their two children, aged eight and seven, as well as two Indonesian men, immediately sought refuge in the forest to escape the rising waters.

“Last night around 11 p.m., my family and I, along with the two Indonesian men, set off through the forest to seek shelter in Surau An-Naim.

“The experience was indescribable; only Allah knows how difficult the journey was. I had never ventured into the forest before and it took me around 15 minutes to reach the Surau,” she said when contacted Bernama on Saturday (November 30).

Azila added that before entering the forest, she informed her family and friends about the situation to keep them abreast of the unfolding events.

“I surrendered to Allah as we all left the house one by one, bringing only essential documents to avoid any unforeseen circumstances,” she said.

A review by Bernama today revealed that several villages in the Kuala Lumpur region remain flooded due to persistent rains over the past few days, including Kampung Baru Sungai Durian, Kampung Chenulang, Kampung Kuala Nal and Kampung Keroh.

According to the Ministry of Social Affairs’ (JKM) Info-Bencana portal, 40 temporary evacuation centers had been set up in Kuala Krai by midday, providing accommodation for over 5,000 people. -Bernama
