Netflix fans are desperate for new episodes after binging on “perfect” TV series over the weekend

Netflix fans are already begging for new episodes of a historical drama after the second season.

The German series “The Empress” is based on the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria (or Sisi), who reigned for 44 years from her marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1854 until her assassination in 1898.

In the series, Devrim Lingnau plays the title role while her husband is played by Philip Froissant.

The first season, released in September 2022, was Netflix’s second most-watched series worldwide for two weeks and became one of the most popular non-English series of the year.

It begins with a 16-year-old Sisi falling in love with the emperor, who was originally her older sister’s fiancé.

After arriving in Vienna, she has to deal with court politics and her new husband’s meddling family.

The first season, which has an 88% rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes, was described as “riveting” by fans.

After a wait of almost two years, the six-episode second season was recently released and fans also praised the sequel.

“It starts off a little slow, but reaches its dramatic climax at the end, leaving us all breathless.” “Great season,” Pavel posted on Rotten Tomatoes.

“She did many things, like Diana, that really moved people, such as going to asylums, visiting the wounded in hospitals, and even influencing the emperor to free the Hungarians from the rule of Vienna.” That made her very popular.’
